technofeudalism 2024
This magical place is tucked away in Henley on Thames, but no one is paying attention. It is home to Olympic equestrians, majestic horses, spirited pups and an abundance of flora and fauna- yet the screen absorbs the human gaze. Constant notifications and dopamine inducing content divert attention from natural beauty. Even when blessed with the most breath-taking surroundings, users are often unable to live in the present and appreciate the moment due to the ubiquity of technology. Smart devices have given us so much potential, but what have we lost in their stead?
What is natural beauty now? What do we define as natural? The reality is that electronic appendages have become extensions of our bodies and minds. It is now unnatural to bathe in silence or stillness. Ceaseless stimulation has become the norm and we, androids, are evermore drawn into the metaverses we create for ourselves. This photo series captures the growing pains associated with the immersion of ambient computing and commodified attention.
